Mothers in Student Affairs Administration
- Being a #SAPro Woman = CONSITENTLY JUDGED on OUR LOOKS
- Told how they look, comments on: hair, dress, height, weight - ALL THE TIME
- Deliberately try to look more masculine, or baggy clothes, boxy , everything assumed attention is divided and assumed family comes first
• Research Showed Being a Mother #SaPro Means Feeling...
- Guilty about too busy
- Self consciousness about identity
- That people never think you're enough
- The need to hide family
- That your compassion, empathy, and patience is seen as weak
• Lessons
- Other folks need to be aware of what it's like being a mother and #SAPro
- #SAPro mothers must challenge these notions of weakness or not enough
- Research also showed mothers feel fulfilled and role-modeling for their children
- Technology had made it easier to work from home if leaving early for children
• Sign up for supplemental disability BEFORE pregnant
