Arkansas

Back in 1906, the first diamond mine was discovered in Arkansas. Arkansas was part of the Louisiana Purchase. In June of 1836, Arkansas became a state. The word Arkansas came from the word acansaw, it means downstream place. The state was name by French explorers, it was in honor of the Quapaw people.

The state bird is the mocking bird, the same bird as FL. The state flower is the apple blossom. The state flag has 25 stars to simbolize it becoming the 25th state. The state musical intrument is the fiddle. Hot Springs National Park is the most visit tourist attraction.

The Crystal Bridge art muesum has a cool restaurant. Staff memebers help out at high schools for art classes. Georgia O’Keeffe’s Jimson Weed/White Flower No. 1 is located there and holds a world record.
