Why we should have a Healthier Canteen.

WHY

Eating healthier means having more long lasting energy and sleeping better at night. You will also more be able to concentrate in class because sugar gives you lots of energy for only 30 minutes or less and after that it gives you a really horrible feeling like being tired and annoyed.

Why I want to make a change

I think it is important to have a healthy canteen because otherwise people just buy junk food without realising what they are putting in to there body. So I think it is important to change that.

What impact will it have on the school?

I think it will have a big impact and it will change the way people in our school look at what their eating.

The canteen would be open all week. Prices would be cheaper, so people would come more often. These are some of the things that would be avalible to buy:

Fruit yoghurt

Plain vegtables and fruit

Pizza with toppings like mushrooms and capsicums

Fruit salads

Salad sandwhichs

Cheese Blocks/sticks

Apple Slinkys

Milk with frozen milk cubes

Whole meal crackers

Freash Fruit Juice

Water

These are just some of the items that could be on stock

Having a healthier canteen menu means that when you buy things from the canteen you are not buying junk food that is not good for your body.

May protect you from different types of cancer

Impacts postively on your life span

Encourages lower blood pressure

Lowers the risk of heart disease

Consuming more vitamin C

Protects you from, heart disease, stroke, cancer, diabetes, kidney stones and bone loss

Consequences

Eating too much junk food can have severe consequences on your mental and physical health. By eating unhealthy food you risk:

Becoming over weight

Developing tooth decay

Developing heart diease

Being short of breath

Having high blood pressure

Having high fructose levels that cause cancer cells to grow faster

Developing diabetes

Weakening the brain due to high consumption of sugar.

More men than women are overweight

A recent study from the National Health Survey and the Australian Health Survey said that over the years obesity is effecting more people.

If some one is obese at 5, they will most likely become obese adults.

Being over wieght is more common in groups such as Indigenous Australians.

Junk food actually means Limited Nutritional Value.
