RESPIRATORY SYSTEM

PARTS OF THE RESPIRATORY SYSTEM

The Respiratory system is a system that controls your intake of oxygen and your output of carbon dioxide. It consists of the mouth, nose, epiglottis, larynx, trachea, bronchi, diaphragm and the most important organ ; the lungs. These organs all function together to make sure that your breathing is steady and properly working.

The path that your breathing takes through the system of organs to exchange with carbon dioxide is not very complicated. The oxygen enters through the nostril or mouth it then travels past the larynx and into the windpipe or trachea. It then enters either the left bronchus or the right bronchus. after the oxygen enter the left lung or the right lung, here they exchange the oxygen with carbon dioxide through a process called the pulmonary flow. Although there is a lot more to it this is the basic path of oxygen though the respiratory system.

FUNCTIONS OF

Functions of the respiratory system

The respiratory system is a vital part of the body. It is most commonly known for it's ability to supply oxygen. But, the respiratory system can also do so much more; a few of the other things the respiratory system does; disposes of the body's used oxygen, otherwise known as carbon dioxide. Your red blood cells also play an important part in this operation. They first carry oxygen to wherever the body requires, they then collect carbon dioxide and carry it back to your lungs where it's to be exhaled. Failure in the respiratory system can lead to hypoxia, a decrease in the body's oxygen flow. Or can lead to anoxia, a complete lack of oxygen flow. There are several other functions of the respiratory system for example; participation in the acid-base balance of the body, the production of speech sounds, and metabolism.

Problems of the respiratory system

A few problems with the respiratory system is their ability to develop/catch a multitude of diseases and/or varying problems. A few of these problems include the following; Asthma, Lung Cancer, Collapsed Lungs, Inflamed Lungs, and Pneumonia.

Honestly, many if these issues are easily avoidable. You just have to be aware of what you're putting in your body. Avoid drugs and cigarettes, Take vitamins recommended by a doctor, or visit a local nutritionist if you'd like to know more about what you put in your body.

PROBLEMS OF

Your respiratory system should be well maintained, and taken care of. If you don't take care of it properly, it can easily lead to lung problems and diseases. Once obtained, many lung problems can be difficult to take care of and can ultimately lead to death, examples being lung cancer and the build up of tar due to the excessive use of cigars/cigarettes.
