Prisoners of war and Indigenous Australians

What were Prisoners of war?

What were Prisoners of war?

Prisoners of war were soldiers that were captured by the opposing side. There were about 4000 Australians but into these camps, and we put 7000 prisoners into our own camps.

Aboriginals and Torres-Strait Islanders

Aboriginal and Torres-Strait Islanders

Aboriginal and Torres-Strait islanders were allowed to fight in the war, but only if they were "white enough" and they were treated the same as the rest of the army. Around 1000

Indigenous soldiers participated, and the

majority of them fought for rights and

freedom. There was only one recorded

female out of the 1000.
