Colgate University

Gamma Phi Society is founded sometime around 1833 as the first literary society at Colgate University in Hamilton, NY.

1840

Adelphian Society - 1840

Colgate University

The Gamma Phi Society becomes the Adelphian Society.

1850

Delphic Society - 1850

University of Rochester

Members of the Adelphian Society at Colgate transfer to the University of Rochester and form the Delphic Society.

1869

Gamma Sigma Fraternity - 1869

SUNY Brockport

Professor Charles D. McLean, who attended the University of Rochester in the 1850s, establishes the Gamma Sigma Society at the Brockport Normal School. The society later became known as Gamma Sigma Fraternity.

Delphic Society - 1871

SUNY Geneseo

Professor William J. Milne, an honorary member of Gamma Sigma at Brockport who also attended the University of Rochester, becomes principal of the Geneseo Normal School and brings with him students from Brockport who help form the Delphic Society in Geneseo.

Delphic Fraternity - 1899

SUNY New Paltz

Alpha Pi Nu (founded in 1889) and Kappa Delta Alpha (founded in 1894) at the New Paltz Normal School merge in 1899 to become the Zeta Chapter of the Delphic Fraternity.

Sigma Tau Gamma - 1951

SUNY New Paltz

The Zeta Chapter of the Delphic Fraternity in New Paltz, NY becomes a chapter of Sigma Tau Gamma.

1987

Delphic of Gamma Sigma Tau Fraternity - 1987

SUNY New Paltz

A group of students in New Paltz reestablish the Delphic Fraternity as Delphic of Gamma Sigma Tau Fraternity.
