1920 (economic)
In 1920 American companies would construct massive factories here in Canada. These factories would produce the products and sell them to the customer without having to pay the high freight costs and import duties taxes/tariffs which was good for the American companies because they could save a lot of money in fees. Also these factories would allow more Canadian citizens to find jobs, lowering employee rates and also helping the Canadian economy. Most of these Factories were being built in Ontario and Quebec where most people lived which gave the company a higher chance to have a full team .This event is significant towards shaping Canada’s identity because without these American companies building these factories in Canada the Canadian employee rate would still be down till this day and the Canadian economy would not be the same.

The Military Voters Act was passed in 1917 by Canadian government which allowed women to have the right to vote but there was not a federal election till 1921. This event was significant towards shaping Canada’s identity because many of Canadian women did not get their voice out there and now have the chance to express their feelings. Today women are expressing their feelings everywhere changing Canada as a Country.

In January of 1922 two scientists from the University of Toronto named Charles Best and J.B. Collin discovered a cure for diabetes called Insulin, this would help lower and normalize metabolism levels in the human body. Charles Best and J.B. Collin believed that there was some kind of internal secretion of the pancreas that was preventing metabolism levels to rise which led them in their research to finding a cure. Insulin was created because many people had diabetes and there was no cure for it . Today this cure has helped millions of people all over the world and continues to do so. This event is significant towards shaping Canadian identity because many people all over the world have diabetes and without a cure many of those people would have gotten ill or even died, and some of the most important people in this world have diabetes and without them the world would not be the same place as it is today.

The Halibut Treaty was a treaty that was signed between Canada and the USA which was an agreement on fishing rights in the Pacific Ocean. It was the first environmental treaty aimed at conserving an ocean fish stock and was also the first treaty that was independently negotiated and signed by the Canadian government.this is one of several landmark events that transitioned Canada into its own country. It also indicated a shift in Canada’s economic focus from Britain to the US during the 1920. This treaty created the International Pacific Halibut Commission, which still continues to this day. This was a significant event because this is the first treaty that Canada signed and negotiated without the help of the british. Without Canada doing this Canada could still be part of British colony and have to follow what British had to say.

The great depression started on October 29, 1929 and lasted the whole decade affecting everyone and everything. The great depression started when the stock market crashed in 1929 and continued to decline until it was at rock bottom, many people all around the world had tons of money in the stock market but when the stock market crashed they lost it all . People lost their jobs and money was very little in families. Most people had to sell their things like land, house and every day things to keep themselves alive but it was not enough. This was a significant event in shaping Canada’s identity because Canada had to rebuild its economy and need to find ways where they can regain all the money that they lost. Also the Canadian government needs to find ways how they can help support the people in need that can’t afford to stay alive. Like what is happening in today's day and age with the pandemic.

May 26 , 1932 (Political)
The Co-operative Commonwealth Federation was founded on May 26 1932 this was a new party that Canadian citizens could vote for in the coming federal election. The leader for the party was J.S. Woodsworth who had been a strike leader during The Winnipeg General Strike. The CCF main focus was to bring back the Canadian economy by introducing a number of socialist policies. Another main focus for the party was to improve the health care and redesign the tax system to distribute wealth to Canadian citizens. This event was significant towards shaping Canada’s identity because Canadian citizens could vote for someone else in power which they believed that the party would make a good change in their lives and for the Country. Without the CCF becoming a party in Canada many things in Canada and outside of Canada would not be the same as it is today.

The Regina Riot was on July 1 1935 and it was a peaceful protest from British Columbia to Ottawa where the protest would express their feelings to the government about the conditions of the relief camps and how much they are getting paid to work there. but the government did not want to hear the protest and had to say so the RCMP and police force started a war between the protest and the police. This event is significant towards shaping Canada’s identity because of this protest other future Canadian governments know what to not do when protesting is happening instead listen to what they are trying to say and try not to stop them because it would end up like the Regina Riot.
