Online learning can seem like a really incredible option. I mean, there's something really appealing about doing your coursework at home in your pajamas at the time most convenient for you. However, this format can be academically dangerous for some students.
Online learning requires organization and dedication. The best online learners are self-motivated and determined. They have that grit we talked about last week. If you struggle with staying on track or time management, online learning may not be for you.

When you time is limited, and you should be using it to study, what is most likely to derail you?
How do you shut that thing out and focus?
1. Invest in a planner! Or, use a to-do list website like Wunderlist.com
2. Transfer important dates from your calendar to your planner
3. Set intermediate deadlines. Give yourself stepping stones toward the bigger goals/assignments.
4. Schedule fixed activities for the entire term.
5. Check for schedule conflicts.
6. Schedule flex time.
7. Monitor the schedule each day and adjust as necessary.
As you make your schedule, consider the following:
Do any items fit best on a certain day of the week?
Can any items be grouped together?
Are there any tasks that qualify as "floating priorities," able to be completed any time, anywhere?
1. Keep track of your excuses.
2. Break down projects into smaller components.
3. Trick yourself by working on an easier part of a project first.
4. Resolve distracting issues before you work.
5. Set realistic goals for yourself.
6. Write down any distracting tasks so you remember them later.
7. Commit to spending X amount of time per day on the task.
8. Overcome fear - particularly fear of failing.
9. Get tough. Hold yourself to your commitments.
10. Acknowledge (and reward) accomplishment.
