The lightness or darkness of tones or colors
Go Slow! Using careful pencil strokes will give you better coverage
Use Layers! Start with lighter layers and build them up with more layers to darken
Hold your pencil so that the SIDE of the graphite is hitting the paper! This gives you more control over pencil pressure
You will need to draw four pipes. Each pipe needs to be drawn with different shading techniques- hatching, crosshatching, scumbling, and blending (regular shading.)
The pipes must have bends in them and a fitting before and after a bend. None of the pipes are allowed to be completely straight.
You must create a good composition- the pipes should be running off the page.
Each pipe should overlap another pipe and have another pipe overlapping it.
100- All four shading methods show a smooth gradation of light to dark, and pipes appear highly three dimensional.
90- All four shading methods show a gradation from light to dark, most pipes appear three dimensional.
80-At least three out of the four shading methods show a gradation from light to dark, at least 2 pipes appear three dimensional.
70-half of the shading methods show a gradation from light to dark, pipes appear flat.
60- One or fewer of the shading methods show gradation from light to dark, pipes appear flat.
