-The right to be treated equally and without discrimination regardless of gender, race, ethnicity, economic class, sexuality, physical and mental ability, or religion.
It's important for everybody to be treated equally so everyone feels safe. People should not face future disadvantages based off the things they were born as/with.
-Every person with citizenship, age 16 and up, has the right to vote in elections
-People in prison (previously or currently) have the right to vote in elections
Voting is a big part of democracy. It gives people a choice on who is leading them and controlling the space they're living in. This is important because without voting, people aren't given the opportunity to choose who is controlling things that affect their everyday lives.
Prison is not a great place and I believe prisoners should have the right to choose who is controlling their environment. This is unconditional of past wrongs.
-The right to deny police officers entry to search your house without a warrant
-The right to a fair trial
-The right to be assumed innocent before proven guilty
-The right to not have to answer questioning without a lawyer present
If the police don't have a warrant to search your house chances are they don't have a good reason to search your house. A house is private property and the police should not enter without just cause.
Without a fair trial, it's easier to blame crimes on people with circumstantial evidence. It is morally wrong to put a person in jail without knowing the complete story.
If the judge assumes you're guilty immediately, it will be difficult for them to see the case without bias. Being put in jail for a crime you didn't commit is serious and could be life-changing.
People don't generally know what can be used against them in court. Even if someone is innocent and says the wrong thing, that could be used against them. It's important for people to feel safe and like they have someone on their side, especially for somebody who has been falsely accused.
-Freedom of peaceful assembly/protests
-The right to choose your religion
-Freedom of expression
-Freedom of language
-The right to privacy
It's important that everyone has the opportunity to peacefully fight for what they believe in.
Religion is not something that should be forced onto someone. It's what people believe in and not letting people choose their religion also goes against freedom of expression.
The freedom of expression allows people to share their opinions, beliefs, and thoughts. Without freedom of expression, people would be afraid to voice their concerns or ideas.
Taking away someone's language is like taking away a part of someone. Language helps us keep in contact with our cultures and heritages and is part of our identities.
Privacy rights make sure the government is not spying on people without reason. They make sure people are protected and what they want to keep private can be kept to themselves as long as they aren't harming others.
-The right to be free from torture and slavery
-The right to an education
Torture and slavery go against human morals because they claim ownership over another human being and people are not property.
Without an education, it is much more difficult to be hired for a job. Not allowing someone an education limits their success.
-The right to enter, exit, remain, or move around in the country as you wish
Citizens should be allowed to pursue work and livelihood in any region and leave the country as they please.
