There is something strangely magical about the body the children have found - it was so huge they first mistook it for a "an enemy ship" or a "whale" and this handsome giant's body is so heavy the men of the village have trouble carrying it and it doesn't fit in any of the houses in the village.

The drowned man who washes to shore is a stranger to the village, and yet, they come to recognize him and conclude that "he was Esteban". Their unquestioning acceptance of his name is both strange and magical. It is the first step as they claim the drowned man as their own and make his greatness the inspiration for their own transformations.

The body of a drowned man washes ashore near a tiny, isolated, barren village. the villagers take in the body and as they prepare the body for burial, the come to be in awe of the drowned man's beauty and size. They attribute to him all the greatness that they themselves lack and name him estaban. eventually they claim him as one of their own and his greatness inspires them to make positive changes in their own lives and village.

Gabriel García Márquez, was an undisputed giant of 20th century literature. He gave the world 100 Years of Solitude and Love in the Time of Cholera. He won a Nobel Prize, and after his death in 2014, the president of García Márquez’s native Colombia called him “the greatest Colombian who ever lived.”
