Eternal sealing between man and woman via the power of the Melchizedek Priesthood in the temple.
Men are primarily responsible for presiding and providing for the family. They also are holders of the Aaronic and Melchizedek Priesthood.
Women are primarily responsible for bearing and nurture children. In the Church, women are leaders of the Relief Society.
Both men and women serve as missionaries, teachers, and temple workers; each with distinct roles and responsibilities.
And again, verily I say unto you, if a man marry a wife by my word, which is my law, and by the new and everlasting covenant, and it is sealed unto them by the Holy Spirit of promise, by him who is anointed, unto whom I have appointed this power and the keys of this priesthood; and it shall be said unto them—Ye shall come forth in the first resurrection; and if it be after the first resurrection, in the next resurrection; and shall inherit thrones, kingdoms, principalities, and powers, dominions, all heights and depths... to their exaltation and glory in all things, as hath been sealed upon their heads, which glory shall be a fulness and a continuation of the seeds forever and ever.
- Doctrine & Covenants 132:19
Family is the focus of the order as well as the Church (and this class).
The main objective Plan of Salvation is for us, the children of God, to reunite with our heavenly parents and live in exaltation and the Patriarchal Order allows us to achieve it.
"The patriarchal order is of divine origin and will continue throughout time and eternity. … Men, women and children should understand this order and this authority in the households of the people of God, and seek to make it what God intended it to be, a qualification and preparation for the highest exaltation of his children."
- Teachings of Joseph F. Smith, Chapter 16
"The plan of the Father is that family love and companionship will continue into the eternities. Being one in a family carries a great responsibility of caring, loving, lifting, and strengthening each member of the family so that all can righteously endure to the end in mortality and dwell together throughout eternity."
- Elder Robert D. Hales, Quorum of the 12 Apostles (Oct 1996)
Even though we pray to Heavenly Father, we have a Heavenly Mother who has equal celestial glory as Heavenly Father.
As children of God, we have earthly parents as well as heavenly parents. As such, we have divine roles and responsibilities as we strive to become like our Heavenly Father and Mother.
We are part of the 'eternal seeds' of our heavenly parents and we can have our seeds in the earth and in the Celestial Kingdom.
They need each other to bare children.
With children, the power and blessings of priesthood can be passed down from generation to generation.
Men and Women are full partners.
In a nutshell: men and women need each other to be exalted into the Celestial Kingdom.
“We honor woman when we acknowledge Godhood in her eternal Prototype.”
- Elder Rudger J. Clawson, Quorum of the 12 Apostles (1910)
Nevertheless neither is the man without the woman, neither the woman without the man, in the Lord.
- 1 Corinthians 11:11
