In the beginning on the book Guy Motag could strictly feel Apathy.
From the beginning of the book you can tell the Guy enjoys his job and hasn't given what he is doing a second thought. "While the books went up
in sparkling whirls and blew away on a wind turned dark with burning.
Montag grinned the fierce grin of all men singed and driven back by flame." (Bradbury) He enjoys watching things go down in flames.
He first starts question pretty much his entire existence around the time he talked to Clarisse the first time and pretty much everytime he talks to her or when he starts talking to Faber.
When Guy first conversed with Clarisse he realized that she has a different way of seeing the world and thought it was odd because a majority of people were all alike. She constantly questions things she doesnt understand.
"Do you mind if I ask? How long have you worked at being a fireman?"
"Since I was twenty, ten years ago."
"Do you ever read any of the books you bum?"
He laughed. "That's against the law!"
"Oh. Of course."
"It's fine work. Monday bum Millay, Wednesday Whitman, Friday Faulkner, burn 'em to ashes,
then bum the ashes. That's our official slogan."
They walked still further and the girl said, "Is it true that long ago firemen put fires out instead of
going to start them?"
"No. Houses. have always been fireproof, take my word for it."
He realized that maybe things were different from what he thought and raised to believe his entire life.
The river was very real; it held him comfortably and gave him the time at last, the leisure, to
consider this month, this year, and a lifetime of years.
After he founded the scholars in the woods he felt like he had found his people
"I remember. Montag clung to the earth. I remember. Chicago. Chicago, a long time ago. Millieand I. That's where we met! I remember now. Chicago. A long time ago."
