THEMES AND TONES OF THE TEXT

WHAT IS A THEME?

THEME

The theme is a controlling idea or insight of a text. A literary theme is the main idea or underlying meaning a writer explores in a novel, short story, or other literary work. The theme of a story can be conveyed using characters, setting, dialogue, plot, or a combination of all of these elements.

Explain how the elements from Exercise A contribute to the theme of this selection

There are 3 elements they are ethos or ethic, logos or logic and pathos or emotion. With these 3 elements you can inspect the relationship between the speaker and the message, speaker and the audience, and message to the audience.

are equal from birth, all people have a right to live,to be happy and free.

Which i think is very true and important to know about life.

Was the theme directly stated? If so, what part of the text was it stated in?

2

  • Yes, it was directly stated.
  • It was stated in the middle of the text.

In one sentence, state the theme.

  • Vietnam declaring freedom from those who were harming them.

Do you agree with the theme?

  • Yes, I do. I agree with it because while reading the text you can truly see how badly Vietnam was being treated by both the French and the Japanese so it is only right for them to be able to be free.

2

Is the writer presenting the truth or forcing us to accept a false view?

He introduces the topic to us almost immediately, or you can kind of get the topic early on. The topic has been clearly said and implied all throughout the story so the readers don't really have to think about it or interpret it much because it has been stated very clearly. Even when you first read it, the main topic of the speech is right at the title of the text.
