Dried milk

Dried milk was first used under the rule of Kublai Khan. It was carried around as a paste made from sun dried milk. It was used as a dietary supplement.

Dried Milk

When they used it

Since they were nomadic people they traveled light but still wanted a filling food source. They would eat it during military conquest when finding real food was hard. The paste was the ancient for of a protein shake.

Biological weapons

Biological Warfare

The mongols were the first recorde to be using biolocical warfare in 1347 when attacking the seaport city of Caffa. They luanched bodies infestend with the black plague over the city wall to kill the defenders.

Composite Bow

The composite bow is made up of wood, horn, and sinew. Instead of one single piece of wood.

Composite Bow

Why it was better

The composite bow were smaller and more accurate. The shape and the materials increased the draw strength and amount of stored energy to increase the range.

Stirrup

Let the rides go for a longer period of time by giving them the ability to stand up.

Stirrup

Military

They were able to stand up and shoot with their bows as they were attacking. Even if they had to retreat they could turn around to shoot back at the enemy's.

Saddle

The mongols developed a new type of saddle. It was made of wood with a high back and front.

Saddle

With the high back and front they could could ride hands free. This made it easier to travel and fire storms of arrows.

Why it was effective

Mongol Cavalry

They used the improved composite bow, stirrups, and high saddles. They could ride hands free and fire backwards.

Mongol Cavalry

Why it worked

They would ride up firing arrow storms as they approach. When they got close they would turn around and act like they were retreating. To draw the enemies away and turn to fire arrows.
