POWERS

Powers

  • Genius-level intellect

  • Proficient scientist and inventor

  • Spider physiology: Precognitive spider-sense ability, and Webbing ability

  • Tiny scopulae hairs on his hands and feet that allow him to adhere to walls and most surfaces.

  • Utilizes wrist web-shooters to shoot spiderweb material

Further Enhancements

Enhanced Strength

Enhanced Speed

Enhanced Reflexes and Agility

Enhanced Balance

Enhanced Healing Factor

Enhanced Vision

During his teenage years, at a laboratory field trip, Parker was bitten by a genetically modified, radioactive spider, and acquired superhuman abilities. This granted him the proportionate strength and speed of a spider, as well as an uncanny ability to adhere to walls.

Initially, He used his powers to stop small crimes and save people in Queens. However, after the death of his uncle Ben, he resolved to use his abilities to help those in need. Parker developed his own synthetic web fluid and web-shooters and chose to fight crime in the streets of New York City as the masked superhero named Spider-Man.

Good and Bad Biology Assessment

Biological Analysis

  • Gene Splicing of Spider Genome

  • The spider bite initiated an immune response to the toxins from the spider bite as evident by the inflammation on his wrist, indicating the release of histamine hormone, along with a short period of fatigue.

  • Peter has high intellect capacity as evident by his educational endeavors, adventures, and the construction of his own suit.

  • Peter is still susceptible to harm and death by extremities of weather conditions or weapons like regular humans.

Good

Bad

  • A bite from a radioactive spider is not capable of producing unique activator proteins for scopulae and web material transcription out of his actual skin. The human body also lacks the primer required for this to take place.

  • A bite from a radioactive spider is also not capable of transcribing the proteins for scopulae and web material formation within the human body.

  • Cyclin-Dependent Kinases and DNA polymerase failed to check for and stop mutations withing Peter's cells.

  • A bite from a radioactive spider can not repair retinal tissues and muscles.

  • A bite from a radioactive spider can not enhance strength, balance, agility, and immunity, along with increasing muscle mass. These can only be enhanced via rigorous training and not to superhuman extents.

  • It is scientifically impossible for humans to carry out anaerobic respiration for long periods of time, especially while carrying out high energy activities .A bite from a radioactive spider is not capable of enhancing ATP production.

  • Heightened CNS & PNS functioning, indicates enhancement of signal transduction pathway.

  • The mutation in his DNA, and subsequent hybridization does not sterilize him. Furthermore, his daughter inherits some of his super abilities. This shows that the bite caused mutations in both his somatic and germ-line cells.

Further Analysis

Further Analysis:

  • Defies Laws of Gravity.
  • Ability to climb
  • Super Human Strength
  • Bruises indicate inflammation, signaling release of histamine.
  • Web is able to sustain extreme forces of tension.
  • Unharmed by extreme exposure to heat, i.e: no inflammation or degradation of proteins.
  • Fight response stimulated by adrenaline.

Mini-Quiz:

Q.1. Which hormone is likely to be produced by Peter's glands that is responsible for his flight or flee reactions in response to his enhanced spidey senses?

Q.2.Where is the histamine responsible for the inflammatory response to the bite likely produced?

Q.3. Which stage of cellular respiration is likely responsible for producing the ATP responsible for Peter's superhuman strength and endurance?

Q.4. What type of immunity does the bite likely grant to Peter?

Q.5. Which part of the nervous system is most like responsible for Peter's immediate reactions to his spidey senses:

a) Central Nervous System

b) Peripheral Nervous System

Key:

1: Adrenaline.

2: Mast Cells.

3: Oxydative Phosphorylation

4: Passive or Adaptive (Debatable)

5: b) Peripheral Nervous System
