My Moral Mind Map

Giovanni Cammalleri

Freedom and autonomy

As individuals we always seek freedom and autonomy. These two values are deeply interconnected with one another, as you exert your freedom, you gain autonomy. Moreover, as you grow more autonomous from people around you, you become more free in your choices.

Freedom and autonomy

Duty and Motive

Duty, motive, and good

An action becomes moral when it is done for the sake of duty. Being kind to someone when you do not feel like being kind is considered a moral act, but being kind to a friend is not considered moral. Moral worth is measured not by the result's of one's actions, but rather by the motives behind them. This is how duty and motive are connected.

Motive and good

Motive and good

When we are faced by a problem we make a choice that we believe is good. We believe that it is a good choice because we give a motive to justify it.

Good and duty

Recognizing what is good and what is bad will help us do our duty as we need to know what good is in order to act for the sake of duty. We cannot act according to our duty if we do not know what good is.

Identity and moral stance

Identity and moral stance

Identity and moral stance are strictly connected. To find one's identity one needs to find out where they stand in life. By doing so they will know what their beliefs are. They have found out the values that will give them their fundamental direction in life, leading the individual to making the choices they believe are right. One discovering where they stand in life they have also found out who they are.

Conscience and judgement

Conscience, judgement, and responsibility

When making a choice a person uses judgement as it helps them find out what is the right decision. In order to figure out this solution a person will be influenced by their conscience. Conscience will help them discern right from wrong and judgement will help them make that final decision.

Judgement and responsibility

Judgement and responsibility

I believe responsibility and judgement are interdependent. Part of being a responsible person is being able to judge what is wrong and right. Being able to chose for myself and judge situations without anybody's influence is what makes me a responsible individual.

responsibility is being aware of our action and be ready to accept their consequences. as we do this we develop a sense of judgement towards what is better for us and the people we care about.

Responsibility and conscience

Since conscience can be wrongly formed, it is important that we do not let that happen. We are responsible for its development. Additionally, when making a choice due to our conscience it is important to remember that we are responsible for that choice and that if eventually something bad happens because of it we must accept the consequences.

Ethics and morality

Ethics and morality are two of the main subject of studies for philosophers, theologists, and humanists. They are interconnected and work together in the search for the ultimate good. Ethic is the study of good and its characteristics, morality is instead a set of rules and values created by society to realize what ethics believes in, which is the final good. They are interdependent with one another in order to obtain a complete understanding of good.
