Find Topic: Pick a piece of who you are (hobbies, talents, values, traditions, stories, etc.)

For example: My favorite hobby is playing guitar and singing

Focus Topic: Fit the topic to your time limit, be specific, choose personal events or situations Become a story teller

Introduction - the opening of the speech

  • gain audience attention (question, joke, story, quotation, etc.)

Body - the main section of the speech (use transitions like first, second, third)

  • main points guide your speech and logically connect the topic to specific examples

Conclusion - the final section of the speech

  • signal the end and reinforce your main theme

Extemporaneous Speaking - a carefully prepared and rehearsed speech that is presented from a brief set of notes (structured conversation)

More than just words, be thoughtful of your body and movements

  • Gestures - motions a speaker's hands or arms make during the speech
  • Eye Contact - direct visual contact with the eyes of another person
  • Vocal Variety - the rise and fall of a person's voice

Remember to turn your anxiety into positive nervousness (energy and enthusiasm)
