Spain has a high hydroelectric potential, developed over more than a century. As a consequence, it has an important and consolidated highly efficient hydroelectric generation system.
Within the renewable energies that are exploited in our country, hydroelectric energy is the most consolidated and mature technology, thanks to the use of the orography and the existence of a large number of dams
Castilla y León is the one with the highest production, 26% of all Spain. Galicia follows, with 22%. In fact, there are five communities that account for 80% of the hydraulic energy in Spain: Castilla y León, Galicia, Aragon, Catalonia and Extremadura.
Solar energy has great potential in Spain, which is one of the countries with the most hours of sunshine per year in the world.
In the case of Spain, practically the entire territory can benefit from solar panels. However, there are areas with many more hours of sunshine for which are perfect for this type os energy.
The sunniest corners for solar panels in Spain are in Andalusia, Extremadura, Murcia, Valencian Community and Castilla-La Mancha. If we talk about cities, Huelva and Seville have the most hours of sunshine on average per year, with more than 3,500. While above 3,300 hours are Almería, Cádiz, Murcia, Cáceres, Alicante and Castellón.
Wind energy in Spain is the generation technology with the most installed power.
Wind energy is that produced by the force of the wind. It is a type of renewable energy, whose source is the inexhaustible force of the wind. In Spain we can find large wind power generation parks as is happening with other renewable energies such as: solar thermal or biomass.
Wind energy is present in practically all the autonomous communities, except Madrid, Ceuta and Melilla. During 2019, the autonomous communities that installed the most wind power were Aragón followed by Castilla y León and Galicia
