Validity

Validity

Validity is information that comes from a verified source

Valid information is useful to organisations as it will fit the need to which it is being used.

Time frame is an important factor to consider when looking for valid information.

Wikipedia is reliable, but not valid as any user can change the information and make it opinion based.

Reliability

Reliability

A reliable source of information comes from as source that supplies on time, in tact, detailed and useful information.

News sources get it wrong sometimes. Standard practice is 3 reliable sources before publishing.

Bias

Biased information presents a one sided view.

Not necessarily incorrect!

E.G. my house has a new kitchen, new bathroom and has been decorated throughout........just leave out the fact that the roof leaks!

Bias

Comparable

Comparing similar information

Schools comparing data with similar schools

Organisations could compare data from previous years to spot any trends or progress.

Comparible

Time

The amount of time information is valid for depends upon the information

It is ultimately up to the company to decide when information will have ceased to become relevant.

Time

Relevance

The data Protection Act ensures that any data haled about individuals must be relevant.

A database for a pizza delivery firm holding records of customers wouldn't need to know the salary of its customers!

Too much information can be overkill and can get in the way of analysis.
