Tom told George Wilson that Myrtle was killed by Gatsby’s car.
Then George decided to kill Gatsby as REVENGE!!!!
Tom talking to Nick:
““I told him the truth,” he said. “He came to the door while we were getting ready to leave, and when I sent down word that we weren’t in he tried to force his way up-stairs. He was crazy enough to kill me if I hadn’t told him who owned the car.”
Myrtle Wilson
Myrtle is relative to blame for Gatsby's death. Myrtle running out in front of Gatsby's car made George want kill Gatsby . To George, it was unknown that Daisy was actually driving the car.
"Crazy about him!" cried Myrtle incredulously. "Who said I was crazy about him? I never was any more crazy about him than I was about that man there."
"Was Daisy driving?" (Jordan said) "Yes, he said after a moment, but of course I'll say it was me (Gatsby) (Fitzgerald 143)
Gatsby is responsible for his own death because he put himself between Tom and Daisy’s marriage. This made Gatsby an enemy of Tom. Gatsby took responsibility for Myrtle’s death which had also made things worse between Gatsby and Tom.
Jordan said
"Was Daisy driving?(Gatsby) yes, but of course I'll say i was.
Society killed Gatsby because it allowed him to hide behind his money and live in a fantasy world.
