-> Controversial because the old king wanted his cousin on the thrown.

-> Even more controversial when she married a catholic man named Philippe II.

-> In favor of a catholic state and executed everyone who disagreed with her

-> Queen Elizabeth sent troops to Scotland to covert them to protestant

-> Treaty of Edinburgh: France and England signed a treaty later that year that removed their troops from Scotland.

-> St. Paul's Cathedral was badly damaged in a fire

-> Thirty-Nine Articles: Articles written in Latin and English that defined the position of the Church of England on matters of faith.

-> Thomas Gresham founded the Royal Exchange.

-> Catholic Spain wanted control of England

-> The constant switching between religions, and therefore social laws, caused political uproar and riots

-> 1616: William Shakespeare dies on his (presumed) birthday, April 24

-> 1620: Pilgrims set sail for America on the Mayflower

-> 1625: King James dies and his throne is passed to his son, Charles I

-> 1640: Charles I is forced to summon a new parliament to have money to fight the Scots, who were causing a stir with their new prayer book.

-> 1646: After years of scuffling and fighting them, Charles I surrenders to the Scots

-> 1649:

- January 30: Charles I is charged of high treason, found guilty, and is executed

- May 15: radical, political and religious ideas flourished, but the army leadership took offense to this, so they crushed a "Leveller" mutiny at Burford in Oxfordshire.

-> 1651: January 1 - Frantic to restore his father's throne, Charles I's son, Charles II, is crowned king of Scotland with the promise of Scottish military assistance.

-> Queen Mary was nicknamed "Bloody Mary" because she executed so many people

->Robert Dudley’s wife, Amy Robsart, died after falling down a flight of stairs in 1560. Many people believed that Dudley had murdered his wife so that he could marry Queen Elizabeth, which he never did.

-> Mary of The Scots is a famous woman and cousin of Queen Elizabeth in the 1560's. She has a song named after her by Greg Trooper (Highly recommend listening to it)
