Jealousy is the force that controls
Othello’s mind and makes him take a decision he would never give birth to. Iago’s mind is

Iago: Look where he comes!
Not poppy, nor mandragora,
Nor all the drowsy syrups of the world,
Shall ever medicine thee to that sweet sleep
Which thou owed'st yesterday.

Othello: Avaunt! Be gone!
Thou hast set me on the rack.
I swear 'tis to be much abused,
Than but to know a litttle
Iago: How now, my lord!
Othello: What sense had I of her stolen hours of lust?
I saw't not, thought it not, it harmed not me.
I slept the next night well, was free and marry;
I found not Cassio's kisses on her lips.
He that is robbed, not wanting what is stolen,
Let him know't. and he's not robbed at all

Othello: I had been happy if the general camp,
Pioners and all, had tasted her sweet body,
So I had nothing to know. [...]
Iago: Eccolo che viene!
Nè il papavero, nè la mandragora
Né tutti i sonniferi del mondo ti potranno
Guarire e ridarti quel dolce sonno
Che avevi ieri.

Othello: Via! Vattene!
Mi hai messo alla tortura.
Giuro che è molto meglio essere ingannati
Che sapere soltanto un poco.
Iago: Ma come, mio signore!
Othello: Che senso avevo delle sue ore rubate di lussuria?
Non le vedevo, non ci pensavo, non mi facevano male.
La notte dormivo bene, ero libero e allegro;
