The North and South Korean border
The demilitarized is the region on the Korean peninsula that distinguishes North Korea from South Korea. This border is roughly placed o the latitude 38 degree N.
The seperation of North and South Korea occured 69 years ago on July 27, 1953 following the korean war.
The United states president at the time Franklin D. Roosevelt and the Soviet Premier Joesph Stalin and their governments were the ones who ultimately caused the seperation of Korea.
The border was created following the break up of the Japanese empire at the end of WWII, U.S. officials Dean Rusk and Charles Bonesteel were given the task of delineating the U.S. occupation zone in East Asia. They split Korea making sure the capital Seoul was in their southern zone. The Japanese troops in the northern zone then surrendered to the Soviets and the troops of south korea surrendered to the U.S. officially dividing Korea.
The borders was in place due to the Northern territory of Korea being occupied by the Soviets and the southern territory was taken by the U.S. troops. The DMZ also prevents each side of the country from invading eachother , and it stops North Korean citizens from defecting to South Korea

In 2015 an incident occured where north Korea set off landmines in south Korea and in response South Korea blared propaganda through loud speakers along the border. Instead of violence they professionally discused it and although North Korea did not fully apologize they expressed their regrets and South Korea accepted that. This was a great chance for the two countries to solve conflict without outside influences and they did, North Korea even agreed to let families that got separated hold reunions after the resolution.
if more tension arises between the two countries I believe the smartest thing to do would be to let the two countries work the conflict out themselves because the U.N. and the Soviets were initially the ones who broke the country into two and established two different and opposing governments. Unless of course North Korea and South Korea do turn to violence then South Korea may need the help of the united nations because North Koreas military strength far exceeds that of South Korea. Hopefully the two countries can repair their relationship and maybe one day Korea can unite once again.
"Propaganda city"
Poverty ridden North Korea
- The demilitarized zone is actually home to plants and animals unique to the rest of Korea, the flora and fauna show a side of beauty that is not particularly seen. Some of the animals like otters and the endangered black star minnow
- North Korea placed a bunch of buildings near the border but it is known as propaganda village due to the fact there is no people among it and the true North Korea is poverty ridden and not lively what so ever.
