MANOR FARM CHARCTER MAP

SQUEALER

"It is for YOUR sake that we drink that milk and eat those apples. Do you know what would happen if we pigs failed in our duty? Jones would come back!"

-SQUEALER

NAPOLEON

Squealer is Napoleon's spokesperson, delivering propaganda to the rest of the animals, and helping Napoleon keep the animals oblivious and under complete control.

SNOWBALL

Squealer hurts Snowball's Repuation through propaganda to serve Napoleon's dictatorship. He degrades Snowball's greatest achievements, revoking Snowball's Badge of "Animal Hero, First Class", and making it seem like the windmill had been Napoleon's idea all along.

BOXER

Squealer convinces the other animals that Boxer was taken to a vet rather than the knackers to be sold off to obtain money for the pig's whisky.

NAPOLEON

BOXER

"I WILL WORK HARDER"

&

"NAPOLEON IS ALWAYS RIGHT"

-BOXER

Boxer is extremely loyal to Napolean, believing that he is the supreme leader of all animals. As a result, Boxer does everything Napolean says. The pigs, seeing this loyalty, works Boxer to the brink of death.

BENJAMIN

Boxer likes Benjamin and hopes to retire with him in the future. Benjamin returns this care and tries to save Boxer from the knackers, the only time he ever brays or gallops.

CLOVER

Clover, along with Benjamin, warns Boxer to take care of his health, and when he is injured, they help him through the pain.

Old Major

"Man is the only creature that consumes without producing. Yet he is lord of all the animals. He sets them to work, he gives back to them the bare minimum that will prevent them from starving, and the rest he keeps for himself."

-OLD MAJOR

Snowball

After Old Major's teachings and death, Snowball is the one who takes on the job of being the leader of the animals. In the coming weeks, he holds meeting with all the animals, leads the harvest, and fights in the rebellion.

Napolean

Napolean, after Old Major's teachings, wishes to be leader. However, Snowball is deemed as the leader instead. After snowball flees, Napolean becomes the dictator and blames all the problems on snowball due to his resentment against him. He also becomes progressively more oppressive over time and completely disregards Old Major's teachings at the end of the story.

CLOVER

"If she herself had had any picture of the future, it had been of a society of animals set free from hunger and the whip, all equal, each working

according to his capacity, the strong protecting the weak..."

- clover

BOXER

Clover cares for Boxer, and tries to stop him from overexerting himself, and helps Boxer when he gets injured.

MOLLIE

Clover catches Mollie allowing a human to stroke her nose, and evenetually exposes her human mingling antics.

Benjamin and Clover are united through their mutual care for Boxer, eventually ending up as the one of the few animals left on the farm that remember a time before the pigs took over, confirming Benjamin's cynical view of the inevitable cycle of life.

BENJAMIN

SNOWBALL

“Comrade, those ribbons that you are so devoted to are the badge of slavery. Can you not understand that liberty is worth more than ribbons?”

-SNOWBALL

NAPOLOEON

Snowball is the leader of the animals before Napolean. After Snowball disappears, Napolean blames all problems on the farm as Snowball's fault due to his resentment towards him.

OLd Major

Snowball interprets the teachings of old major after his death, and applies them during his very temporary rule of the farm, always following the 7 commandments until he is chased away.

Mollie's stupidity leads her to not be convinced about the Rebellion. Her priorities are ribbons and sugar, instead of listening to and helping with Snowball's plans.

MOLLIE

MOLLIE

"Will there be sugar after the rebellion?"

-mollie

CLOVER

Clover exposed Mollie for mingling with the humans, which caused Mollie to flee the farm. (And the narrative)

MR JONES

Mollie was one of the only animals on the farm that was relatively content with Manor Farm under Mr Jones' rule. This is because she did not care about freedom, and only cared about things like sugar and ribbons.

SNOWBALL

Mollie questions Snowball on whether sugar and ribbons will exist after the rebellion, showing her love for human things and lack of loyalty to the animal's cause and rebellion.

NAPOLEON

Comrades…do you know who is responsible for this? Do you know the enemy who has come in the night and overthrown our windmill? SNOWBALL!"

-NAPOLEON

SNOWBALL

Snowball and Napolean are enemies. As soon as Snowball disappeares from the farm and Napolean assumes leadership, Napolean accuses Snowball for causing all the problems on the farm and gives him the death sentence, ordering him to be killed instantly if ever found.

MR JONES

Though Mr Jones and Napolean do not demonstrate a direct relationship, at the end of the book, Napolean behaves much like Mr Jones: eating with humans, drinking alchohol, standing on two legs, etc.

At the end of the novel, Napolean is seen sharing a toast with Mr PIlkington. He also interacts with Pilkington when selling the stack of lumber, pretending to prefer Pilkington when in reality, he prefered Frederick.

MR PILKINGTON

MR FREDERICK

"The other farm, which was called Pinchfield, was smaller and better kept. Its owner was a Mr Frederick, a tough, shrewd man, perpetually involved in lawsuits and with a name for driving hard bargains"

-THE NARRATOR

MR JONES

Mr. Frederick is implied to be the individual who cost Mr. Jones a lot of money in a lawsuit, causing Mr. Jones to start over-drinking, eventually leading to the animal revolution and takeover of the farm.

NAPOLEON

Mr. Frederick is strongly opposed to the mere idea of an animal-run farm, betraying Napoleon, attacking the farm and destroying the windmill all in an effort to ruin Animal Farm. Dut his actions, in the end, are in vain, For Animal Farm succeeds.
