TikTok is a social media that was established on July 17, 2018 by a company called ByteDance. It is one of the fastest growing social medias of all time. On TikTok, users can make 15 second videos either using preexisting sounds or make their own and show off their own creativity while entertaining others.
TikTok was previously an extremely popular app called Musical.ly. On Musical.ly you can also make 15 second videos, but instead users would lip sync to different songs and do comedy skits.
TikTok has gained as much popularity as it has for many different reason. First of all, unlike like many other social medias instead of having just pictures that others post, it has comical videos of people using popular songs. Also, TikTok has endless scrolling which allows users to scroll for hours without ever repeating videos.
TikTok was the reason why some artiest have had the amount of success they have recently had. For example, Lil Nax X's "Old Town Road" has been at the top of Billboards Top 100 Hits for several weeks now because of its popularity that started on TikTok. Other people have also had there fame take off on tiktok such as, Ambjay, Lizzo, Rico Nasty, and many more.
On TikTok there is a thing called the "For You Page" where anyone's public TikTok can go for others to see and enjoy. Normal, everyday people can get millions of views on their TikTok's if they make it onto the "For You Page."
TikTok has been the cause of many different categories of people to arise. There are different types of people such as eboy, egirls, VSCO girls, Chad, OCSV boys, and soft girls. All of these different type of people dress and act differently. For example, eboys wear baggy, dark clothing with chains and enjoy choking themselves and rolling their eyes. While VSCO girls wear over sized Ron Jon shirts and say phrases such as, and I oop- and sksksksk.
