Math with M.C. Escher

The Waterfall

The art piece I chose was the waterfall. I chose this piece because I loved the optical illusions and how geometric the entire painting was. Throughout the years I have seen this painting everywhere and still to this day when I see it I pause and look into the illusions that trick my eyes and brain. In the first five minutes that I truly studied the Waterfall looking for geometry I found that it was not hard at all to find.

The Waterfall

Finding math in the Waterfall

The picture on the right is the waterfall. In this picture you can see right angles, parallel lines, squares, arcs, rectangles, circles, rectangular prisms, triangular prisms and more!

Math is everywhere

Other famous pieces

These are some other famous art pieces that incorporate math.

"Mechanical Elements" by Fernand Léger incorpates many geometric shapes

"Mechanical Elements"

Mechanical Elements

This is the second artpiece I chose. I loved looking into this peice because it allows me to see so many different images and pictures. Also the amount of geometry in this is extreme. I can see right angles, and parallel lines, rectangles, circles, planes, cylinders, triangles and so much more.

Mechanical Elements was made by Fernand Léger. This artwork is very similar to the waterfall. Almost every shape in this artwork can be seen in the waterfall as well. Also each has there own optical illusions and bring there own uniqueness to eye. For example, Mechanical Elements uses color that makes the shapes pop out, and the Waterfall takes a more realistic approach to geometry and optical illusions.
