Franklin Pierce signed into law the Kansas-Nebraska Act which overturned the Misouri Compromise of 1820. The Kansa-Nebraska Act created the terretories of Kansas and Nebraska.
Under Franklin Pierce the United States purchased what is now Southern Arizona and New Mexico from Mexico for $10 million dollars. Pierce also attempted to buy Cuba from spain but was not succesful
