Franklin Pierce (D)

14th president of the United States of America from 1853-1857

Background

• Born in New Hampshire

• Enrolled at Bowdoin College in Maine where he excelled in public speaking.

• Married to Jane Pierce from 1834-1863

• Had three kids whom all died at a very young age.

• His son Franklin Jr. died four days after being born. His other son Frank Robert died from Typhus, and his son Benjamin died in a train accident.

• Studied Law

• Served in the New Hampshire legislature.

• In the 1830's he went to Washington where he first served as a representetive and later on as a senator.
