Max exits the borders to pick berries and is caught. He is hit by the back of a soldier's rifle and is sent to jail. Zena rescues him and they flea to America.
The theme of my book is what it is like to be a Jewish person in the time of World War II.
This is a great book that I would recommend to anyone who is into historic fictions. This book helped me understand what it was like to be alive in this time.
Main characters in the book include Aunt Hannah, Max, and Zena. This book takes place in Germany and at a Jewish camp.
Max and Zena are two Jewish kids living in a Jewish camp. Max and Zena are walking around the camp when all of a sudden they see a berry bush right on the other side of the border. Max squeezes past the border to get some berries. Max is caught and hit Zena fleas and rescues Max.
Max and Zena flee to a farm house where they are rescued. The farmer gives them some food. He tells them to hide in the hay as dogs surround them. The farmer is good friends with them and tells the soldiers no one is there. After the soldiers leave, three Jewish people come in from the field.
Two of them were boys and one looked a lot like their Aunt Hannah. The girl took off her hood and it was Hannah. The kids and the group planned their escape. They ran to the forest hoping to not be seen. When two soldiers were spotted, they shot and wounded Max. Aunt Hannah's group member shot the soldiers and took Max to a camp and patched him up. The group then went on a mission to blow up a train. When they returned, Max and Zena were so excited they had found their Dad. Aunt Hannah, Max, Zena, and their Dad took a ship to America to earn their freedom.
Max and Zena are seperated from their family and they are in a camp for Jewish people. The borders are heavily guarded and its hard to get free.
