Gabriel J. Rains was a General in the Confederate army.

He created the landmine to protect positions of outnumbered confederate soldiers in the battle of Yorktown in 1862

Landmines are anti-personnel and anti-tank weapons. One way that they work is by hiding them under foliage or mud.

Once enough pressure is applied onto the landmines, they explode, which can take out a tank or soldier very easily
