Pfas

Per- and polyfluoroaklkyl substances (Pfas) are synthetic organofluorine chemical compounds that have multiple flourine atoms attached to an alkyl chain. This is seen in the image.

What is Pfas

Pfas (Forever Chemicals)

Pfas are nick named forever chemcials because of they are able to be extremely persistent, lasting thousands of years becuase of their atom structure.

Pfas are known as "forever chemicals"

Health issues with Pfas

Multiple Helath problems like kidney cancer

Pfas is known to be used within multiple different industrial and consumer products and because of this it is likely that there is some concentration of pfas in most people. But if conentrations increase within the blood of a person major heatlh issues can arise such as kidney and testicular cancer, increased cholesterol levels, and increased high blood pressure as well as other major health issues.

Pfas and Colorado Drinking Water

Colorado Drinking Water and pfas

More than a hundred drinking sources within Colorado's cities and counties to elementary schools and campgrounds contain what is considered as potentially hazardous levels of PFAS. In addition to this it is suspected that many other water sources across the state also contain hazardous levels of PFAS but have not been tested.

But in lighter instance the EPA is taking measures to be test water sources more in Colorado for the potential hazards as well as implement more protocols and practices for supplying safe and clean drinking water.
