Theme of the book

I belive that the theme of this book is family. This is so because even though Molly is in a tough situation with having to deal with her cancer, Meg and her parents are there to support her the whole time she's in the hospital. In fact, Meg paints a design on an egg shell to cheer up Molly while she's undergoing her cancer. Meg also tries to bring her some flowers and photographs of Molly to help give her strength to fight lukemia.

Theme

I'm always there for my sister!

Literary Device

Lit. Device

One literary device found in this text is, "Mom'll kill you if you tear the wallpaper"(Lowry 55). This is a hyperbole as the statement is exaggerated, showing that Meg's mom will be super mad if she tears the wallpaper. The phrase is not meant to be taken literally
