Petrache Poenaru is one of the important personalities of the 19th century, involved in many diverse activities. Perhaps not many know that Poenaru was the inventor of the pen, although internationally the invention is attributed to Lewis Edson Waterman.

Tudor Vladimirescu's right hand

Poenaru was born on January 10, 1799, in the town of Bănești, Vâlcea county. Fortunately for his intelligence, the Romanian grew up with some wealthier relatives and thus was able to continue his studies. Between 1811 and 1818 he attended secondary studies in Craiova, at the school at the Obedeanu Church. During this time, the young Petrache Poenaru becomes more and more passionate about Tudor Vladimirescu, wanting with all his heart to join the pandus.

Although it seems a trivial tool, the pen was the basis of the development of civilization as we know it today. Why? Because through writing we were able to create, grow and learn. Over the centuries, these pens have allowed us to retain and communicate information or create works of art. The texts of Shakespeare or Dickens would not have existed if they had not had the necessary tools to put them on paper. Today, however, we have so many pens and pens at our disposal that we don't know where to choose, but not many of us know the history of this instrument that was the basis of our civilization. So the Colorit team decided to inform you. Read on and find out how the pen was born.
