The Cambrian period was between the Precambrian time period and the Ordovician period. The interval or the time period began 541 million years ago and it ended 485.4 million years ago.
The continents were mainly in the southern hempsphere. The largest landmass at the time was called Gondwana. The land temperatures were mild; they were warmer and the land was somewhat wet. The Oxygen levels were low, about 40% of what we have today on earth, the carbon dioxide level were also very high. The high carbon dioxcide levels hinted that the temp was warm, so some times the temp, even by the poles was around 120 degrees.
Plants had not yet evoled during the Cambrian time period, so there wasnt any vegitation. The animal that arose during the Cambrian time period was the agnathans. (An agnathan is a fish with not jaw) They were the first animals with back bones. Another form of life was marine invertebrates. A marine invertabrate is a animal in the water that doesnt have a backbone, for example, during the time period there were sponges and brachiopods.
During the begining of the Cambrian period, there were more of a diversity of animal than at the end. Some animals/things that went extinct during the time period were many shell-dwelling branchiopods and trilobites.
They went extinct because of the exsplosion/oxygen levels dropped.
One significant event from the Cambrian period was that the major groups/animals evolved much quicker, in about 40 million.
Another significant thing was that there was more shelled things so there was more fossils from the era. During the time period there was a rise in atmospere o2.
The exsplsion lowered the amount of tribolites and branchiopods.
-There was 40% of oxygen then than we do now on earth
-There was 15 times more carbon dioxide then, than there is now
-the Cambrian period created the most intense burst of evolution ever to be known
How did the Cambrian Period end?
Scientist don't know exactily what ended the Cambrian period but the think that oxygen levels dropped intensly wipping out the animals that were just settling in. The reason that the oxygen levels dropped is not precisely known because scientists didnt/dont have a lot of information about the physical and chemical parts of the world during the cambrian time.
