Human's and Sloth's muscular systems both are very similar in helping with movement and stance, however there are also many differences between the two. A human is a bipedal being, and can stand with two legs. A sloth on the other hand can not stand on its own, and is even considered a four-armed being. Sloths arms are built to stay in trees, being why they have a different shape compared to humans. When Sloths do have to go on the ground though they are almost helpless and can not easily transport themselves the way humans can. Instead they have to almost crawl because of them being four-armed.
Sloths are four-armed, meaning that they can not stand or carry their body in an upright position. This is because sloths do not have the necessary extensor muscles and stability in their joints. Sloth's limbs are made for climbing in trees, and they are not good on the ground. This is why sloths spend most of their lives in trees, and only go down when necessary for emptying their bladder. Overall 25 to 30 percent of a sloths total body weight is muscles. This is much smaller than most mammals who's muscles make up 40 to 45 percent of their bodies.
Humans are able to stand in an upright position due to their muscles, making them the first bipedal beings able to stand. Humans have come from apes due to a process called evolution. Apes although not looking much like humans have close features to humans, including the ability to support themselves on two legs. Although only for a small period of time, they show the same capability as humans. Muscles in a humans take up a large portion of their body weight, 38 to 54 percent for men and 28 to 39 percent for women on average.
Human's and Sloth's digestive systems have the same overall purpose, to both digest and turn food into energy, however there are many differences between the two. Because the sloth is an herbivore, it needs a four chamber stomach to digest its food. A human only needs a single chamber stomach because of their diet as omnivores. Sloths also digest their food much more slowly compared to humans.
A sloth is a herbivore, meaning that their diet only consists of plants. Compared to other herbivores however it feeds for a way smaller portion of its day. Although they do not eat as much, their stomach is usually always full because of their slow metabolism and digestion. Another factor that contributes to the slow digestion is their four chamber stomach which allows them to digest plants. This is an important factor for the sloth since most live in the Amazon where the leaves have a protective poisonous coating. Sloths also have large stomachs compared to other animals their size, taking up about 20 to 30 percent of their overall body weight.
Humans are omnivores, which means that they have a diet that consists of both meats, and plants. Humans take about 40 hours to fully digest food. With food leaving the stomach after about 5 to 6 hours. Humans also have single chamber stomachs because of their diet. Our stomachs can hold around 2.5 ounces at the smallest point, and 1 quart at the largest
