Review and finish reading Ch. 1 and answering questions

Work on Chapter Notes in small groups

Ch. 1 quiz tomorrow

1

After looking at the "I Can" statements...

What do you need to focus on learning this unit? How knowledgeable are you when it comes to: plot, CHARACTERS, conflict, and literary terms?

What support do you need as you read?

Finish Reading Chapter 1

Consider:

What elements of exposition do you see?

What events are part of the rising action?

What does Jaja want? What does Papa want? What does Kambili want? Mama?

Chapter Notes

In small groups, work on the chapter notes for Ch. 1.

These go in your notebook and CAN be used on your quiz.

  • Come up with a title for the chapter.
  • Describe the setting(s).
  • Name the characters.
  • Look up at least 3 words (SKIP THIS TIME)
  • Write a summary
  • Draw a picture or symbol
  • Write a reflection

WHY?

The biggest struggle you may have a reader is remembering the plot points, characters, other important details. By taking notes in this manner, you remember better and can find the information faster!

Homework

Prepare for the chapter 1 quiz by skimming the chapter again and reviewing your notes.

The quiz will be 1 question with a paragraph response.
