In the 19th century, the "smog" was resulting in many deaths. Air pollution continued to be a big problem up through the middle of the 20th century.

The rise in air pollution can cut an individuals life down by more than 5 years. People in the worlds most polluted country, Bangladesh, loose almost 6.8 years of their lives. India is responsible for almost 59% of the increase in the worlds pollution since 2013. Which can also affect the lives of people in bordering countries.

China has worked to reduce air pollution by 42.3% between 2013 and 2021, to make sure their country isnt getting deathly polluted as well.

Some causes to air pollution are combustion of solid fuels for cooking and heating, emissions from small industries such as brick kilns, agricultural wasteincluding cattle, pig, and chicken operations which release methane, nitrous oxide, and ammonia into the air, and cremation. It also comes from comes mainly from peat swamp fires in Indonesia
