Title I Status

A Title I School, where 69% of students are eligible for free and reduced lunch.

(Enrollment Summary, 2021)

“How does the STEAM school use its STEAM and Title I status to enhance family involvement from all cultures it represents?”

A

Parent Programs: PTO, SIC, Family Engagement Nights, Volunteering Opportunities

Concern: A lack of enrollment in parent activities, believed to be due to "lack of transportation and work schedules."

Goal: "Move the events out into the community more, not just on school grounds to try to enhance family involvement in the programs."

Suggestion: Provide programs for families on different days of the week and at different times. Also use funds to provide a meal to feed families as they attend.

(Smith, Personal Communication, 2022)

PBLs: Project Based Learning

Project-Based Learning occurs through a process of completed a project from planning, to designing, to implementation until it is complete. There are multiple components, rubrics, tasks and assessments throughout a PBL. Each student has multiple creative opportunities to display their understandings.

Research says...

When students are working within the STEM or STEAM subjects there is “a uniquely high potential to break the cycle [of poverty] due to both the national need for skilled STEM professionals and the high income potential for these trades.”

(Dazhi, and Chittoori, 2022, p.22)
