Political

  • The French's third estate wanted equal representation in the Estates-General summoned by Louis XVI just like how the Americans wanted representation in the the British Parliament.
  • The National Assembly adopted the Declaration of the Rights of Man on August 4, 1789 based on philosophical and political ideas of the Enlightenment.
  • - It was similar to the Declaration of Independence because it proclaimed equal opportunity, popular sovereignty and representative government

Economic

  • Both the American and the French disagreed with taxes that was given to them because of economic problems

- British applied taxes to the Americans to support military forces and the French applied taxes to pay of the debt that it got by funding the American Revolution

  • The French were looking for men rights and an end to Bourgeoisie system similar to how the colonists wanted to have the same rights of British men without having to pay taxes.

  • Rioters stormed Bastille fortress trying to secure gunpowder and weapons similar to when the British sent troops to Lexington and sized and colonial gunpowder and weapons.

  • At the end of the Revolution the National Convention approved a new constitution creating France's first bicameral legislature. Many people opposed it and tried to revolt but Napoleon Bonaparte silenced anyone who protested.

  • The Americans went from being under the British rule to being independent and trying to find a new type of government.
