What is happened during this war?

The Spanish American war started in 1898, but went on for 3 years. America fought Spain for Cuba and the Philippines independence.
America fought for Cuba's independence
Why did America want Cuba's independence?
America traded $100M worth of goods every year in trading with Cuba, and Spain was threatening to take the trade option from Cuba, which would not only hurt Cuba, but also America.
Results of the war
TITLE
After a long 3 years of fighting Spain in Cuba, America finally won and got Cuba their independence, but they actually didn't become independent. America did not think Cuba could handle this huge responsibility, so America took over Cuba, and Cuba would just have to accept it. This helped America out a lot, not only was there no more control by Spain in the Western hemisphere, but America took control of the Panama canal.

When America wanted to get something from the West to the East they had to go all the way around SA, now they could cut through central America
Americas take over of Hawaii

Throughout this conflict, America annexed Hawaii's independence. America did this for 2 main reasons, first, America traded a lot with Hawaii and if Hawaii became a state there would be no import/export tax. Also adding Hawaii would be like a speed bump for any country trying to invade from the west.
My reaction

I was very interested on the Spanish-American war because it made such a big impact on the U.S and Cuba. I really enjoyed making this project because there was just so much info and it was just overall a fun project
