Telus' Current Marketing Strategy

"Since March, Telus has given an additional $933,000 to 10 communities in B.C. and Alberta when local customers activate smartphones" (Paul, 2011).

Based on the quote on the previous slide, it's clear that Telus takes supporting social causes very seriously! It's a key part of their marketing strategy (Paul, 2011).

Current Advertising

  • Aimed at winning hearts/creating an emotional link (Paul, 2011)
  • Animal themes, support of causes, and customer-involvement initiatives (Paul, 2011)
  • E.g., opened voting for which animal to have in the next ad (Paul, 2011)

Telus' advertising reaches coast to coast in Canada. This implied on their website, which states the following:

  • That "building national capabilities across data, IP, voice and wireless" is part of their framework (Telus, n.d.)

Some notable ad channels used by Telus:

  • Google Adwords - first paid result on certain searches
  • Social Media - actively responds online (Stone, 2015) and there is an "end bullying" campaign (Telus, 2018)
  • TV - animal ads (Paul, 2011)

Telus' demographic is wide, but they tend to gear towards certain groups:

  • Subscribers of other providers (transfatfree, 2018)
  • Sports fans (Torque Strategies, n.d.)
  • Youth - through Koodo, a Telus subsidiary, Telus caters to the youth market (McLean, 2008)

Currently, Telus' most heavily advertised product appears to be the 4K HDR TV packages.
