Students will explore a number of topics in this unit, they will learn about:
How businesses identify customer wants and needs and therefore how businesses select the correct marketing mix (price, product, place and promotion) as a result of their market research. Students will consider the two main methods of market research; primary and secondary market research. Students will understand how businesses use their market research data to segment the market and the benefits of doing so.
The learning in this unit will allow students to gain a better understanding in how businesses go about quantifying their success. Students will explore several financial documents allowing them to understand the importance of documenting and recording the finances. This unit introduces accounting to students. This unit can be seen as an introduction to students who wish to study finance in further education.

This unit Finance appears in Paper 2 of the GCSE Business Exam Paper. Students will be assessed on:

AO3: Analyse and evaluate business information and issues to demonstrate understanding of business activity, make judgements and draw conclusions.
Students will explore a number of topics in this unit, students will learn about:
The different of sources of finance available for businesses and the advantages and disadvantages of each source of finance. Students will focus on three financial statements: the Cash Flow forecast; the income statement and the balance sheet. Students will explore the layouts of these financial statements, its importance to business and how to interpret them and therefore suggest practical solutions.
Students will also look at financial ratios/formulas: Net Profit Margin, Gross Profit Margin and exploring business investment approach- using Average Rate of Return calculation.
Finally the topic of Break-Even as a concept will be looked at. Students will learn the formula and be able to apply it and interpret break-even analysis and charts.
The learning in this unit will allow students to understand how they will be assessed and how to analyse case studies presented in the exam. Students will become familiar with exam papers; the number of question, the marks, the templates, and the timing. Furthermore students will understand how to approach exam questions in respect to the marks awarded. This learning will build confidence and prepare students in tackling the exam questions they will find in the GCSE examination paper.

Business Studies A-level, students will engage with the world of business through the context of current business developments and real business situations. Students will learn how management, leadership and decision-making can improve performance in marketing, operational, financial and human resources.
The BTEC Level 3 Diplomas are broadly equivalent to two/three GCE A Levels. The programme aims to provide students with an in depth understanding of the operations and structures of businesses and also to equip students with the skills required to succeed in employment or at university. The course will involve businesses in the public, private and voluntary sectors. Students will learn real, practical skills for the business world. These include making presentations, completing group tasks, interpreting financial data, producing business documents and responding to tough business decisions. Students will also learn the academic skills necessary for university success.
