The periodic Table

Group 17

Halogens

flourine and chlorine

Fluorine is the most electronegative element. Fluorine reacts with every other element except helium, neon, krypton, and oxygen.

Chlorine is the sixth most abundant element in earth's crust; it is also abundant in our oceans. Flourine atomic number is 9, chlorine is 17.

florine and chlorine

bromine and iodine

Bromine has been used since ancient times. When people found out about bromine they it was a brown liquid, they needed to study the element.Bromine is a very reactive. When bromine reacts with potassium it will blow up.Bromine can be used in pestisides and as a anti knock agent.

Iodine was first discovered by Bernard Courtois in the year 1811.Iodine is used in alot of medicines.iodine is alot less reactive with other elements in group 17.Iodine has alot of metal properties even though it is a non metal. Bromine's atomic number is 35, iodine is 53.

astatine

Astatine was made by a russion chemist named Dmitri Mendeleev. When the new periodic table was made,no one put astatine in. Astatine was finally put in the periodic table in 1940. Astatine can produce salts with another element sodium. Astatine is very radioactive and they use it in cancer treatment but only in small amounts. Astaine is also very reactive. Astatines atomic number is 85.

simularitys and facts.

facts and simularitys

They are halogens(non-metal), all elements in group 17 have 7 valence electrons and are super reactive. Chlorine and bromine is used for water purification, fluorine in tooth paste, iodine and astatine are in medical treatment.

differences

differences

Their bonds have different strengths, they are not all in the same state, they also vary in color and they are not used for the same thing
