Early Life

Death

Lillian attended Howard University and graduated from Ohio State University.

She had a masters in education and doctorate degree in psychology and business management.

Dr. Beam passed away on July 6th, 2008, only months after having an open heart surgery.

Lillian married into the Beam family in 1947. She would later have six children with Loudin Beam Sr.

She traveled around the world with her navy husband, teaching in different places.

Lillian Kennedy Beam was born on March 17th 1924 to Cara Lee Atkins and Leon Robert Kennedy.

Lillian graduated from Franklin in 1942 at the top of her class. After high school, she went to Ohio State University.

In the 1960s, she became the president of San Diego Community College. She went on to be vice chancellor of the U.S. International University in Nairobi, Kenya.

  • Lillian grew up in a house with 6 kids. Although life was not easy for them, their family was hard working and the light of their community.

Lillian was someone who was able to turn nothing into something. “In seven years she took a school described as being "The Phoenix in the Ashes," purchased 20 acres of land in Kasarani with a view of Mount Kenya, and built a fully accredited American University with 14 buildings spread over five acres of the 20-acre campus.” (Teresa Beam)
