ENVIRONMENT

WHAT IS THE ENVIRONMENT?

The environment is something you are very familiar with. It's everything that makes up our surroundings and affects our ability to live on the earth—the air we breathe, the water that covers most of the earth's surface, the plants and animals around us, and much more.

AIR POLLUTION

DEFORESTATION

ACID RAIN

RECYCLING

WHAT IS RECYCLING?

Recycling is the process of transforming waste into new materials and objects. It can save material and help reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Recycling can prevent wastage of potentially useful materials and reduce the consumption of fresh raw materials, thus reducing energy consumption, air pollution and water pollution.

How to segregate garbage?

Interesting facts about recycling

This day and age, there are a lot of people out there that take part in recycling. Some do it because they want to, and others do it because they are pushed to do so. Either way, recycling can really make a difference in the environment and it is something that more and more people should begin to do. Here are a few facts about recycling that you may not have known before.

1. Aluminium cans can actually be recycled and put back onto the shelf at your local grocery store in just about 2 months.

2. Recycling an aluminium can help to save a great deal of energy, in fact, enough to run your home television for about three hours!

3. If we recycled all newspapers, we could save over 250 million trees each and every year.

4. Plastic bags that are thrown into the ocean kill over a million sea creatures a year.

5. 24 trees are cut down to make 1 ton of newspaper.

6. Recycling one glass bottle saves enough energy to power a 100-watt bulb for four hours.

HOW TO PROTECT THE ENVIRONMENT?

1. Use compact fluorescent light bulbs:

It is true that these bulbs are more expensive, but they last much longer and they can save energy and in the long run your electricity bill would be reduced.

2. Donate:

You have tons of clothes or things you want to get rid of. If they are still usable, give them to someone who needs them. You may also choose to give them to associations. These associations may sell them and collect a little money. Not only will you protect the environment, but you will also contribute to a good cause.

3. Turn off your devices:

When you do not use a house device, turn it off. For example, if you don't watch TV, turn it off. Turn off the light when you leave a room (even if you intend to return.) It's an easy habit to take up which will help you save a lot of money.

4. Walk or cycle:

Driving is one of the biggest causes of pollution. If you want to use your car, ask yourself the following question: do I really need my car? Walk or use your bike if the journey is a short one.

5. Detergent:

Follow the recommended dose of detergent to

wash your clothes or dishes.

6. leaky faucets:

Watch leaky faucets, which can cause a significant increase in the the water bill. An average of 120 liters of water can be wasted due to a dripping faucet.

7. Rainwater:

Think of recovering rainwater. This water can be used for

different purposes.
