How are people affecting my landform
Erosion has barred tourists from viewing platforms at the Twelve Apostles and another favourite attraction on the Great Ocean Road. Part of the Twelve Apostles boardwalk and a lookout at Loch Ard Gorge blowhole, near Port Campbell, were shut for amid fears of collapse. Acting ranger in charge Ben Hammond said routine inspections revealed soil underneath the platforms, which are more than 20 years old, had eroded.
The apostles were formed by erosion: The harsh and extreme weather conditions from the Southern Ocean gradually eroded the soft limestone to form caves in the cliffs, which then became arches, which in turn collapsed; leaving rock stacks up to 50 metres high.
