Pebble is the largest undeveloped depost of its kind in the world.
We need gold, copper,
and molybdenum for jewelry, electronics, building materials, etc. Pebble Mine would produce a lot of ore for the products we need.

Pebble Partnerships' Projections on “Who Benefits?”
Alaskans, local and state government
The mine would provide jobs (750-1,000 direct jobs & 1,500-2,000 indirect jobs) during the building and 20 year operational period. The average mining wage is $100K. "...jobs mean self-sufficiency. Purpose."
Expected Benefits
Planned revenue sharing with local residents
$21 million average annual L&P borough revenue
$1 billion estimated state of Alaska Revenue

There has been widespread resistance to the Pebble Mine project from jewelery companies, environmentalists, hunters, fisherman, tour operators, Alaskans, and politicians for years.
This is an extensive and complex project covering a large intact area with significant potential impact on the people, animals, plants, soils, waters, businesses, etc. of the area. Other mining accidents have been cited as evidence for concern. Pebble only has a 20-year life expectancy. Pebble deposit is low-grade ore, located in a seismically active zone, and is an acid-generating sulfide deposit.

The Alaskan Natives are concerned about Pebble Mine impacting their subsistance lifestyle. Fisherman and guides are concerned about losing their livelihoods.

The deposit is an acid-producing deposit, causing concern. The tailing piles are also of concern.

Bristol Bay is the world's largest salmon fishery. The world's largest population of brown bears is also in this region. There are fresh water seals in Lake Iliama. Endangered Beluga whales are in Cook Inlet. There are many other animals that are dependant on this region for breeding and survival. Pebble Mine would pose a threat to these animals by disturbing and fragmenting their habitat and creating noise and traffic in their environments.

The Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) found that there would be unavoidable adverse impacts if Pebble Mine goes in. Pebble Partnership received the following notice and had 90 days to submit a mitigation plan. The EIS also included extensive mitigation plan information.

The fight against Pebble Mine has been going on for a long time. It became personal to me a few years ago when I started taking people to see Alaska's coastal brown bears. There is a strong likeihood that Pebble Mine would have a negative impact on my (and many other people's) livelihoods. The mine might provide some jobs, but it would take jobs and a lifestyle away from many other people.
I am hopeful that the fight is over.

The Pebble Tapes were presented to the public.
"The Pebble Tapes are a series of recorded conversations between EIA investigators and the Chief Executive Officers of Pebble Limited Partnership and Northern Dynasty Minerals, the companies behind the contested Pebble Mine project in Alaska."
Topics discussed between EIA investigators and Pebble include topics such as the Alaska Governor, the Army Corps of Engineers, the Northern Corridor, Alaska senators, Alaska politics, corporate structure, water treatment, Trump Administration and EPA veto.
These tapes revealed truths the public were not meant to know.
Tom Collier of Pebble Partnership resigned after the tapes came out. The tapes brought to light some of the concerns that have been presented in opposition to the mine.

The news recently came out that the permits for Pebble Mine were denied. It is yet to be seen if Pebble Partnership will appeal or if the fight is finally over.
