When was the city built?
The Mexican were late-comers to the Valley of Mexico, and founded the city-state of Tenochtitlan on unpromising islets in Lake Texcoco, later becoming the dominant power of the Aztec Triple Alliance or Aztec Empire. ... The empire extended its reach by a combination of trade and military conquest.
Tenochtitlan was an Aztec capital city founded in 1325. It was located on an island in Lake Texcoco, which today is in the downtown of Mexico City.
The site for Tenochtitlan was chosen, according to legend, by the god of war, sun, and human sacrifice - Huitzilopotchli. There they were to construct a temple in his honor.
The Aztecs had many gods but worshiped Huitzilopotchli, the god of the sun and war, above all others. The Aztecs believed that they lived in the era of the fifth sun and that any day the world could end violently. In order to prevent their destruction and appease the gods, men performed human sacrifices. They were known as "The Glory Ritual" in the temples of the Aztecs.
In the society of the Aztecs, people treated others by their social status, ( ex. Slaves, Farmers, and the Nobel ) it depended on gender and class in the Aztecs era. There were different social classes including rich and poor. Some groups were superior over another, such as the emperor over the slaves.
Goods such as cocoa beans, weapons, luxury items, metals, and lumber were created and traded by Aztecs. There are many groups of people, but the slaves were the ones responsible for the creation of all the goods, services, and other resources.
The Aztecs did not have presidents, king, queen, or ruling council. The only leader their society had was an emperor. When it came to pick a new emperor, Aztec's citizens didn't have the right to vote and choose who the leader was. The new emperor was chosen by groups of high ranked Nobel.
The biggest migration for the people of the Aztecs was when they arrived in the Basin of Mexico. They settled on the shore of Lake Tetzcoco because, they believed that Huitzilopotchli told and wanted them to migrate from the north to south. He told them to travel south until they saw an eagle on a cactus, because that's where they would settle. As a result it took them hundreds of years till they found what they were looking for, they finally settled in the year 1325 or, 1345.
Huitzilopotchli is presented as the deity who guided the long migration to the Valley of Mexico. He was the one who told them what to look for and which direction to travel in.
As their god told them, they were supposed to look for an eagle on a cactus and until they found the eagle they were to keep looking.
When they arrived in the Valley of Mexico, they found most of the area already occupied. In roughly 1248, they first settled on Chapultepec, a hill on the west shore of Lake Texcoco.
When the people migrated from the north to the south it took them hundreds of years to find a place to finally settle.
They listened to Huitzilopotchli because he is the most fearsome and powerful of the Aztec gods, Huitzilopotchli was the god of war, the sun, and sacrifice. He was also the patron god of the Aztec capital city of Tenochtitlan. The Great Temple in the center of the city was built in honor of Huitzilopotchli.
When they migrated to the south it took them hundreds of years to find an eagle on a cactus. And then they finally settled in the year 1325 or, 1345.
