- Graphic design is simple- when speaking in general terms. It is about creating visual concepts (using computer software or by hand) to communicate ideas that inspire, inform, and captivate consumers.
- Graphic designers develop the overall layout and production design for applications such as advertisements, brochures, magazines, reports, etc.
- However, that is solely in simplistic terms because there are many jobs in the world of graphic design.

Overall Day
A typical day in the life of a graphic designer consists of the following:
- Meet with clients or the art director to determine the scope of a project
- Advise clients on strategies to reach a particular audience
- Determine the message the design should portray
- Create images that identify a product or convey a message
- Develop graphics for product illustrations, logos, and websites
- Select colors, images, text style, and layout
- Present the design to clients or the art director
- Incorporate changes recommended by the clients into the final design
- Review designs for errors before printing or publishing them

Graphic designers work with both text and images. They decide the type, font, size, color, and line length of headlines, headings, and text. Graphic designers also determine how images and text will go collectively on a print or web-page.

First year students must enroll in the following:

- Fundamentals and Methods: Visual Interaction Design

- Typography 3
- Communication Design 1
- Information Design Concepts and Methodologies
- Processes and Workflows: Visual Interaction Design
- History of Design
plus one of:
- History and Development of Typography

Third year students must enroll in the following:
- Research in design
- Design Placement
- and 6 credits at the 3000 and/or 4000 level in Design Studies
Fourth Year (graduating year) students must enroll in the following:
- Design Workshop
- Professional Aspects of Design
- 6 credits at the 3000 and/or 4000 level in Design Studies
- Students will then choose from a range of practicum courses.

- I chose York University because it offers the education that I want and is conveniently not far from where I live
