They got introduced to a drummer named Chad Channing, who would play with the group, but wasn’t considered an official member. The band was associated with the Melvins, as Krist and Kurt became friends through practicing with the band They also played with their drummer, who was responsible for recommending drummers to their group.

Nirvana begins to work on its second album, with producer Butch Vig. During this time, Nirvana started to gain attention from the music industry. However, they were unhappy with Channing's drumming, which led him to leave the band. Instead, Dan Peters, a drummer from the band Mudhoney, was invited to play for their next single Silver. Later, the band was introduced to a new drummer through Melvin's lead guitarist and singer, Dave Grohl. Nirvana was happy with his drumming, and made Dave Grohl an official member of the band.

Nirvana begins to work on their third and final album, In Utero. They invited a producer named Steve Albini (who was known to create “natural” sounding mixes) to record and mix the tracks, but were unhappy about two of the songs on the album, “Heart-Shaped Box” and “All Apologies.” They decided to hire a producer named Scott Litt to remix the two songs. Nirvana released the album, which hit the top spots on the American and British album charts, selling 5 million copies in the United States. They went on several tours (including recording a performance on MTV Unplugged, hiring notable musicians such as Pat Smear and Lori Goldston to play with them. Unfortunately, after some conflictions with substances and entering drug rehabilitation, Kurt Cobain was discovered dead by an electrician in his own home. From there, the band split with the drummer Dave Grohl starting a new band, the Foo Fighters. Krist Novoselic became a political activist, but formed a couple bands himself, having one album released with each.
